FIRST EDITION. This famous defense of intolerance offered some very interesting observations on demography in its analysis of the political causes and effects of the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre and expulsion of Protestants from France. At the time of writing the issue of tolerance had come up again, and Caveirac's work made a considerable stir.
