Garrison-Morton.com 1415.1: “Thudicum, a German emigré, discovered cephalins and myelins in brain tissue.” Thudicum, one of the founders of brain chemistry, conducted chemical analyses of over one thousand human and animal brains, isolating and characterizing such compounds as sphingomyelin, galactose, lactic acid and sphingosine. The importance of his work was not recognized until after his death.
