First Edition, Offprint Issue. Ludwig and Thiry’s paper “revealed Ludwig’s recognition that the brain and spinal cord had a direct influence on the blood pressure. Many experiments in animals after section of the spinal cord convinced Ludwig to continue this work, and by 1871 he had located the vasomotor center in the medulla” (M. Brazier, A History of Neurophysiology in the 19th Century, p. 103).
