Original cloth, spine faded, light wear and chipping at extremities, minor spotting. Some foxing but very good. Presentation Copy, inscribed on the half-title: “à mon savant maître M. Ph. Ricord son tout dévoué F. Panas.”

First Edition. Panas, the first professor of ophthalmology at the University of Paris, is best known for introducing an operation for congenital and paralytic ptosis (drooping of the upper eyelid; see Garrison-Morton.com 4572), as well as a surgical treatment for entropion (inward-folding eyelid). His 1894 textbook, Traité des maladies des yeux, was considered at the time to be the best French textbook on eye diseases. He was one of Ricord’s colleagues at the Hôpital du Midi.
