First Edition, journal issue. Garrison-Morton.com 4945: “’Korsakoff’s psychosis’ or syndrome—alcoholic polyneuritis with loss and falsification of memory.” The disease, characterized by amnesia, deficits in long-term memory and confabulation (false memories), is caused by deficiency of thiamine (vitamin B1) in the brain; it is typically associated with prolonged and excessive consumption of alcohol.
This copy is from the library of Jean-Martin Charcot, one of the founders of modern neurology, whose work greatly influenced the development of neurology, psychology and psychiatry.
