Treutler obtained his licentiate in medicine from the University of Leipzig with this thesis on parasitic worms, in which he identified some hitherto undescribed species (Tenia albopunctata, Hamularia lymphatica and Hexathyridio pinguicula) and discussed the diseases they cause in their human hosts. The hand-colored illustrations include a transverse section of a human brain infected with Tenia in the choroid plexus, a detailed view of the infected section, and dissections of several of the parasites described in Treutler’s thesis.
