Publisher Information: New Haven: Yale Univ. Press, 1921.

Osler, William (1859-1919). The evolution of modern medicine: A series of lectures delivered at Yale University on the Silliman Foundation in April, 1913. xiv, [2], 243pp. Text illustrations. New Haven: Yale University Press, 1921. Original cloth, light wear at extremities and corners. Very good.

First Edition. Osler described his 1913 Silliman Lectures as “an aeroplane flight over the progress of medicine through the ages” (p. xiii). He later became dissatisfied with the lectures and refused to have them published during his lifetime. They were issued posthumously after Harvey Cushing “pointed out to Lady O. that the Yale Press had them up in type, had the right to publish them and were obliged to do so by the terms of the Silliman Foundation” (Golden & Roland, Sir William Osler: An Annotated Bibliography, 1070).
