Autograph letter signed to an unidentified correspondent

Theodore Wood wrote several popular works on natural history, including "The Animal World" and "Birds One Should Know." In the present letter Wood answers a query about the turbot, a species of flatfish: "I have illustrations of the journey of the eye in the turbot, with description, from the 'Field,' but have unfortunately no record of the date. . . . N.B. The fish, when hatched, are microscopic, & even in the turbot, in which the process is very slow, the journey of the eye is completed before they are an inch long." Book Id: 43012
