Ownership inscription on front wrapper of "Fehling," most likely H.C. von Fehling (1812-85), professor in the Technical High School, Stuttgart, best known for his test for sugar in urine (G-M 680, "Fehling's solution," 1848), a test which opened the way for a definitive chemical study of diabetes mellitus.

First Edition. Garrison-Morton 2329: ". . . Among [Cohnheim's] many valuable experiments, the greatest perhaps was his successful inoculation of tuberculosis in the anterior chamber of the rabbit's eye, 1877, an account of which is included in the above work. This proved that tuberculous material derived from different sources owed its infectiveness to the same contagious factor. . ." A significant association copy signed by the famous researcher H.C. von Fehling.
