"Davaine's other scientific contributions {i.e., the first conclusive proof that a definite disease was due to a definite micro-organism, G-M 5166, etc.} had to do with internal parasites of man & domestic animals. His important work on this subject, Traite des entozoaires, ran to two editions. As early as 1857 Davaine thought of tracking down intestinal worms by seeking their eggs in the stools, a procedure still followed. Experimentally he specified the mode of development of the Ascaridae (Ascaris Iumbricoides) and of the Trichocephalus (Trichuris trichiura)" (D.S.B.)

Inscribed to the great teacher and surgeon, Auguste Nelaton (see G-M 5597). Cole II 77, 2nd. ed. only. Waller 2302. Book Id: 273
