Hammer brought 9 tubes of radium from the Curies' lab to America in 1902, and the above work contains many first-hand references to the Curies, Becquerel, etc. Hammer delivered some 88 lectures on radium, invented the luminous radium preparation used in watch dials, airplane and automobile instruments, and is credited with the first suggestion and use of radium in cancer treatment.
