Probably the First Separate Edition of Magendie’s memoir on the esophagus published in the Procès-verbaux de l’Académie des sciences 5 (1813). “Magendie attempted to show the falsity of the current belief that the esophagus was a uniform muscular tube . . . The new facts which he brought forward were that while the upper half of this organ appeared to contract after the manner of voluntary muscle, the lower half exhibited peristaltic movements under control of the vagus nerve” (Olmsted, p. 54). Olmsted does not cite this separate edition in his bibliography of Magendie’s works.Book Id: 11397
