First Edition. Garrison-Morton 2941 & 5587. Describes Cooper's landmark ligation in 1817 of the abdominal aorta; the patient died two days later. Cooper also pioneered in the ligation of the common carotid and external iliac arteries; see G-M 2929 & 2954. Vol. II contains Cooper's essay on apertures in the urethra, in which he gave probably the earliest report of the transplantation of scrotal skin; see Zeis / Patterson 2160-61, p. 255). Cooper's co-author Travers contributed an important account of surgery of the veins. Wellcome II, p. 388.
