First Edition, offprint issue. Pasteur spent most of his time between 1865 and 1870 investigating the silkworm blight that had plagued French silk manufacturers for the past two decades. During this time he established the independence of the two major silkworm diseases, pebrine and flacherie, and worked hard to establish practical measures against them. One of these methods, described in the present paper, was a method of separating healthy from infected cocoons by use of the microscope. DSB.
