First Edition, Offprint Issue. Thayer was professor of clinical medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; he is best known for his work in documenting gonococcal endocarditis (see Garrison-Morton.com 5212). Thayer presented this copy of his AMA inaugural address to William H. Welch, one of the “Big Four” founding professors at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, who served as the first dean of the Hopkins School of Medicine.
